In 2006 the Korosso household joined KCC. During that year they started an organisation - Lifestyle Care Support - which provides care for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism. Following on from this, Marko and Dawn felt the Lord leading them into a new venture of facilitating the development and provision of social and educational services for vulnerable children in Africa. Their mission began with a 9 week visit to Tanzania by Dawn and her two daughters Kiah and Serena. During this time, Dawn felt a strong sense of purpose in fulfilling the word of God in Numbers chapters 13 & 14 – to survey the land. She researched and visited providers of children’s services and strongly connected with the Christian community in Dar es Salaam. Throughout this time Dawn and her family received essential prayer and encouragement from brothers and sisters within KCC. Upon her return to the UK in late August 2009, her report was good - the land was exceedingly rich and there were many opportunities. Marko & Dawn prayed for God's direction – and God gave them a signal to begin the work in Tanzania. Six weeks later, in October 2009, Dawn and the children relocated to Dar es Salaam to embark on the new vision the Lord had laid upon their hearts – starting with a “pilot” project – Toto Serene Play School. Upon arriving back in Dar, the place for the pilot project was at first unknown. In 2003 Marko’s mama had built a pub, on her son Marko’s plot, and named it Dawn’s Corner after her daughter-in-law Dawn had visited her back in 1999. One day at her weekly Bible Study, Dawn had a revelation that Dawn’s Corner was her spiritual inheritance for God’s work and glory. Building work commenced at Dawn’s Corner; the roof was replaced, walls were knocked down, it was rebuilt, and totally refurbished - light broke through into the darkness and the environment was transformed. Less than 2 years later, two ‘businesses as missions’ organisations opened, two weeks apart – first, Toto Serene Play School on 7 February 2011; then Wamama Kahawa, a coffee shop, opened on 7 March 2011. Six months later, the Vineyard Church of Dar es Salaam was also led to relocate Dawn's Corner. Toto Serene is a ministry that currently cares for 20 children from the local and missionary community and employs 7 adults. It provides structured, loving, inspiring care for young children - in a peaceful, creative, community atmosphere - that sets important foundations for future learning. |
